Remembering Ozzy Osbourne
Shaun dedicates the show to the incredible legacy of Ozzy Osbourne and his music, with a chance to hear Ozzy's own 'Rock God', which he recorded in 2018, plus archive interviews.
How do we put into words what Ozzy Osbourne meant to the rock world? Not just to rock, but to the entire sound of 20th Century British music in general. He was quite simply one of the most recognisable and prolific rock stars on the planet. Since the late 1960s, Ozzy pioneered the sound of heavy rock and metal, with Tony, Geezer and Bill in Black Sabbath and also throughout his own hugely successful solo career.
Beyond the music, he took on a whole new generation of fans with the premiere of 'The Osbournes' reality show on MTV in 2002. It was just weeks ago that Shaun saluted Ozzy's final performance with Black Sabbath in his home city of Birmingham at Villa Park. No one knew how soon it would be that we'd have to say a final goodbye.
On the show, Shaun will honour Ozzy's life in music by playing tracks from his entire catalogue and Ozzy's own Rock God, which he recorded for Johnnie Walker's first ever Rock Show here on Radio 2 in June 2018. We'll also hear from Ozzy's longtime loyal guitarist and co-write Zakk Wylde, who chose Ozzy as his own Rock God earlier this year, as well as couple of choice cuts of Ozzy at the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ over the years.
