21st Century Folk on Radio 2 is a celebration of folk and people's stories marking 200 years of the modern railway. Today, Jeremy is in Derby for The Greatest Gathering rail festival at Alstom's factory site. We discuss all things rail and have a live performance from musician Bill Ryder-Jones. Jeremy also speaks to Ken, who celebrates 50 years of service on the railway and for whom Bill has written a song.

Jeremy will also drive a steam train, and he will discuss HS2, rail nationalisation, trainspotting, model trains, new entrants to the rail industry and more.

The award-winning and pioneering 21st Century Folk series is a celebration of music and stories on the Jeremy Vine Show. With Railway 200 as the theme – marking two centuries of the modern railway - we hear from five people who have an incredible tale to tell about their connection to trains and the rail network. We then set their stories to music as folk artists are inspired to write original songs based on what they’ve heard.
