21st Century Folk on Radio 2 is a celebration of folk and people's stories marking 200 years of the modern railway. Today, Jeremy talks to Charlotte and David. In 2019, Charlotte tried to take her own life near a West Yorkshire railway station. She was spotted by a train driver, David, who helped her through the crisis. Three years later, the two married. Jeremy also speaks to Kate Rusby, who has written a song about Charlotte and David.

The award-winning and pioneering 21st Century Folk series returns to Radio 2 this week with a celebration of music and stories on the Jeremy Vine Show. With Railway 200 as the theme – marking two centuries of the modern railway - we hear from five people who have an incredible tale to tell about their connection to trains and the rail network. We then set their stories to music as folk artists are inspired to write original songs based on what they’ve heard.
