Hele 31
Two teams hope to sparkle at the auction, while Christina finds out about the invention of fizzy drinks.
Find out who put the fizz in soft drinks in this episode from the West Country. In the Georgian splendour of Bowood House and Gardens, Christina Trevanion hears how an 18th-century scientist not only discovered oxygen but also carbonisation. In his laboratory at Bowood, Joseph Priestley learned how to put bubbles in liquid, leading to the fizzy drinks that fill supermarket shelves today.
Meanwhile, two teams are bubbling with excitement to go bargain-hunting. The reds are mum and daughter Jennie and Millie, shopping with jewellery expert Kate Bliss. The blues are sister act Kate and Julie, alongside expert Gary Pe.
In true fashion, Kate quickly spots a pair of gilt cufflinks, then a pinchbeck target brooch. Neither impress the team, and they move on to explore the huge antiques centre in Devon. Meanwhile, Gary is fascinated by an unusual picture of a hot-air balloon made of white metal, but Julie thinks the price is a bit inflated. Auctioneer and ‘fun guy’ Tim Weeks shows his class when he tries to sell a musical mushroom – but for how much?
