On the Edge

Episode 3 of 12

An injured climber is stuck on a narrow ledge after falling 30 ft; spaniel Buzz runs off a coastal cliff; and a couple’s search for a social media hotspot lands them in danger.

Documentary series following the dedicated rescue teams based in the stunning but extreme landscape of Eryri, North Wales. In this episode, a lone climber is badly injured after falling 30 feet from Tryfan’s north ridge. By sheer luck, he was spotted by another passing climber who raised the alarm. But he’s barely conscious, on a ledge just a few feet wide, surrounded by steep drops. The coastguard rescue helicopter airlifts mountain rescue volunteers to help get him to safety. But there’s no margin for error, as the teams must work together to move him onto a stretcher, so he can be winched off.

Along Eryri’s spectacular coastline, coastguard teams are called out to rescue a different kind of casualty who’s also stuck in a very precarious position. 11 month old Spaniel puppy Buzz has run off the coastal path and gone over the edge of a cliff. His frantic owner is beside herself, so the Coastguard Rescue team must abseil down to reach him. And a couple in their 20s find themselves trapped on the edge of a crumbling cliff of slate after seeking out a social media hotspot in an abandoned quarry. It’s a race against time for Mountain Rescue to get to them, as storm-force winds threaten to blow them off.
