It Takes a Team

Episode 6 of 12

An injured climber is hanging by ropes after a 20m fall; mountain rescue solve the sad mystery of a missing man; coastguards are called to a dog walker with a dislocated ankle.

Documentary series following the dedicated rescue teams based in the stunning but extreme landscape of Eryri, North Wales. Rescues in this terrain require teams with specialist skills. In this episode, an experienced climber has fallen 20 metres in the Rhinogydd Mountains in Southern Eryri. He’s badly injured, hanging by his climbing ropes in a steep, inaccessible gully. It’s too dangerous for the Coastguard helicopter to winch down to him. So they’ll need to call on specialist rope technicians from Mountain Rescue to abseil down and carry him to a safer spot.

Next, while Eryri’s rescue teams are equipped with the skills and experience to save lives, sadly sometimes this isn’t possible. And when a fatality happens in a mountain environment, the police may not be able to get to the spot where it happened. So Mountain Rescue teams are trained to assist the police with their forensic assessment and search of a scene. These detective skills prove vital when it comes to solving the tragic mystery of a walker who went missing 12 years earlier. And when a call for help comes in from a dog walker with a badly dislocated ankle on the sands near Porthmadog, coastguard volunteer Laura must call on a completely different kind of skillset to get her out.
