Pushing the Limits
A 15-year-old mountain biker has serious injuries after a downhill crash; a climber is frozen with fear on Eryri’s most dangerous ridge; and two French visitors come unstuck.
Documentary series following the dedicated rescue teams based in the stunning but extreme landscape of Eryri, North Wales. Eryri’s extreme environments make it the perfect playground for people out to test their limits - but sometimes, things can go badly wrong. In this episode, a 15 year old mountain biker has sustained potentially life-threatening injuries after crashing on a downhill trail. He’s in a remote forest location, a kilometre from the nearest road. So Mountain Rescue and Coastguard helicopter teams must work together - and fast.
For some people, the challenge they take on is mental as well as physical. In the next rescue, a Greek woman becomes frozen with fear, or ‘cragfast’, in one of the most dangerous places in Eryri; the knife-edge ridge of Crib Goch. She’s alone, and it’s getting dark. With sheer drops on either side, a fall here could be fatal. Can the Mountain Rescue team get her to safety before she gives in to panic? However, it doesn’t always take a dangerous location to push people beyond their comfort zone. Eryri is the most googled National Park in Europe, drawing in visitors from far and wide. And when a call for help comes in from a French mother and son stuck on one of its smaller peaks, the rescue team soon discover there’s more to this rescue than meets the eye - especially when the language barrier risks landing one of the team in a ‘dangerous liaison’!
