A series of six overheard conversation pieces by Alun Owen鈥檚 earwigger, a man who likes to listen to other people's conversations.

He always lunches at the same restaurant, and selects the table nearest the diners who will provide him with the best entertainment.

The owner of an art gallery is lunching with the friend of a well-known artist, now dead. He is trying to get some pictures from him, but what he gets is Nick's life story. Mr Emmanuel, carefully placed at the next table, gets it too.
