A journey to Samuel Coleridge-Taylor's Nonet.
Sara Mohr-Pietsch maps a route to Samuel Coleridge-Taylor's Nonet.
Sara Mohr-Pietsch maps a route to Samuel Coleridge-Taylor's Nonet. The Nonet was written between 1893-4 whilst he was still a student at the Royal College of Music, where his teacher was Charles Villiers Stanford. Conceived on a grand scale, the piece demonstrates both Coleridge-Taylor's instrumental-writing skill, but also his gift for writing a great tune! Reviewed in the August 1894 edition of the 'Musical Times', the un-named reviewer remarked that "...the whole Nonet is interesting...and few would guess it to be the work of one still a student." Sara Mohr-Pietsch explores the Nonet and its influences.
