Bobby is joined by Indian singing icon Asha Puthli, best known for her 70s disco hits such as 鈥淪pace Talk鈥�, and Anoushka Shankar ahead of her performance at the 蜜芽传媒 Proms.
Asha Puthli is an Indian-American singer, songwriter, producer and actress. She trained in Indian classical music and opera at an early age. Specifically she learned the Jaipur-Atrauli gharana closed-throat style, which is what gives her music (and plenty of other disco songs after it) a distinctive, feather-like quality. She moved to New York to pursue her love of jazz and released her self titled debut album in 1973. She sung on saxophonist Ornette Coleman鈥檚 album Science Fiction in 1972, and became part of Andy Warhol's Factory scene. Her records have been sampled by the likes of The Notorious B.I.G., Kano and Dilated Peoples. Last year she performed at Glastonbury as part of the first tour of her career at age 79.
Anoushka Hemangini Shankar is a British-American sitar player and musician of Indian descent. She performs across multiple genres and styles鈥攃lassical and contemporary, acoustic and electronic. She has received eleven Grammy Awards nominations and was the first musician of Indian origin to perform live and to serve as a presenter at the ceremony. She is the daughter of sitar legend Ravi Shankar and American singer Norah Jones is her half sister.
