Episode 8
Could love be in the air for the cheetahs? Elsewhere, major plans for the hippos are taking shape.
Up at the cheetah house, the keepers are hoping romance could be blossoming between Rachel and Lunis. With wild cheetah numbers in steep decline, a successful match between these two could help secure the species' future. But mating behaviour is tricky to spot, so keepers hatch a plan to capture footage of them together at night. As they nervously review the footage, will it reveal the pair growing close, or will hopes of cubs this year be dashed?
Over at Koala Creek, the drama continues. Heartthrob Dennis is paired with fiery Maisie, while newcomer Monty is trying to win the affections of Violet. These rare southern koalas are notoriously fussy when it comes to partners, and with sharp claws at the ready, matchmaking is no small feat.
Meanwhile, a much-loved camel, Alima, is getting hi-tech treatment for her arthritis. The keepers and a specialist osteopath are determined to keep her comfortable in her older years, but working with a one-tonne camel is never without risk.
Elsewhere, Megan meets Pesto, a tiny five-week-old porcupette. Covered in 30,000 quills and gaining weight fast, he’s already proving to be a big character at Longleat.
Finally, construction is well under way on a bold new project, a state-of-the-art hippo enclosure designed to house four new arrivals. With the clock ticking and plans of future breeding, the pressure is on to get the build completed in time.
