Winning Gold at Hampton Court
We meet a young Welsh farmer rearing beef and sheep in Gwynedd, count rare butterfly orchids near Lampeter, and visit a nursery winning gold at Hampton Court.
This week, Rhodri Davies travels to Gwynedd to meet 22-year-old Erin McNaught. At just 18, she stepped up to run the family beef and sheep farm — and hasn’t looked back. She’s expanded the flock, introduced new systems, and carved out her own space in the world of Welsh agriculture, all while staying active in the sheepdog trialling world.
Then we’re off to a meadow near Lampeter, where conservationists and volunteers from Plantlife gather for an annual orchid count at Cae Blaen Dyffryn. With greater and lesser butterfly orchids becoming increasingly scarce in the wild, these counts are vital in tracking their survival and planning for their protection.
And finally, Megan Williams visits a vibrant family-run nursery in rural Ceredigion. It's a place that blends horticultural expertise with a love of showstopping displays. She meets the father-and-daughter team behind it — and hears how their passion has led them all the way to gold at this year’s RHS Hampton Court Flower Show.
