Elizabeth Alker showcases highlights summer festivals home and abroad including the Aurora Orchestra playing Shostakovich’s 5th Symphony by heart at the Proms.

Throughout the summer we’ll be hearing from some of the best music-making at this year’s ѿý Proms. Today the Aurora Orchestra and their founder and principal conductor Nicholas Collon play Shostakovich’s powerful 5th Symphony by heart.

There are also highlights from across the Scottish capital with summer music making from the Edinburgh International Festival. Today the Monteverdi Choir, English Baroque Soloists and conductor Jonathan Sells give us music by Bach and Purcell and the Sitkovetsky Trio play Cecile Chaminade’s Piano Trio no 2.

Plus, Mozart from Germany's Schwetzingen Festival - a rarely heard arrangement of his 40th Symphony for violin, cello and piano four hands.
