Cynthia has returned from abroad to discover her old friend Mary has died. Her widower Richard invites Cynthia in to explain 鈥� and so slowly begins a complicated romance which ends in marriage.
She believes that his young children should face the real world of missiles, starvation and terrorists, and is determined to drive them out of Winnie-the-Pooh's 'Four-acre Wood'. But they have other ideas....
