Episode 17
Izzie uncovers valuable jewellery, and JJ restores scientific equipment. Money raised at auction will help a man, forced into early retirement, ignite a new passion in his garage.
Izzie and JJ have pointed their blue van to the outskirts of Glasgow to visit Fred, who desperately needs their help after a recent diagnosis threw his life into uncertainty.
Fred moved to the area 20 years ago to help care for his poorly mum. When she sadly passed away, Fred devoted himself to his career and his passion for health and safety. After years of caring for others, the diagnosis of his own poor health left him in a state of shock. Forced into early retirement from a job he enjoyed means he now has more time for his other passion: art and crafting. His new hobby demands space, but his inherited items and personal treasures are taking over the house. With a newly created room and the auction proceeds, he will be able to transform his garage into a crafting haven, complete with a kiln for his glasswork.
Auctioneer Izzie Balmer comes across some stunning jewellery that once belonged to Fred's mother, including an eastern star jewel. She also discovers some unusual curiosities, such as an unused 1950s electric toaster and some ice skates. The big question is: will all these small lots add up to fund Fred's garage makeover? Meanwhile, JJ gives some tired chairs a new lease of life and restores an interesting copper scientific instrument that Fred obtained from an old laboratory.
On auction day, the jewellery that once belonged to Fred’s mum sparks a bidding war. Will JJ’s restorations find new homes too?
