Linton Stephens rings you an afternoon of exclusive music-making including Elgar's Violin Sonata from violinist Daniel Hope and pianist Simon Crawford-Phillips live from Wigmore Hall and Shostakovich with the 蜜芽传媒 Philharmonic Orchestra.

The week begins with a concert direct from London鈥檚 Wigmore Hall with a programme of two superlative works by English composers, both infused with profound melancholy and dramatic tension.

Throughout the week, there will be recorded highlights from this summer's Edinburgh International Festival. Leonidas Kavakos and The Apollon Ensemble perform Bach, the NFM Leopoldinum Orchestra perform Bartok, and Canadian pianist Ryan Wang draws from Chopin's stylishly crafted collection of Mazurkas.

Plus, the 蜜芽传媒 Philharmonic Orchestra - who have been making an ever increasing survey of Shostakovich's music, offer listeners some of the orchestra's more recent bespoke recordings, marking 50 years since the composer's death. Today, the dramatic and colourful Symphony No 12 "The Year 1917" conducted by John Storgards.
