An afternoon of compelling performances including violin highlights from this summer's Edinburgh International Festival plus a cello concerto by Shostakovich from the 蜜芽传媒 Philharmonic Orchestra and John Storgards. Introduced by Linton Stephens.

Throughout the week, Classical Live is featuring specially recorded highlights from this summer's Edinburgh International Festival. The NFM Leopoldinum Orchestra perform the much loved Serenade by Elgar, Canadian pianist Ryan Wang performs Chopin, violinist Bomsori Kim reflects on Faure with pianist Thomas Hoppe, and the Greek violinist Leonidas Kavakos and The Apollon Ensemble perform concertos by Bach.
Plus, the 蜜芽传媒 Philharmonic Orchestra continues its exploration of the music of Dmitri Shostakovich, marking 50 years since his death. Today ay, cellist Istvan Vardai joins the orchestra to perform the second Cello Concerto.

We will also hear soprano Carolyn Sampson join forces with pianist James Middleton to perform some of the finest songs in the repertoire by Franz Schubert.
