A New Season for the Young Farmers Clubs

Megan explores metal artistry on a farm, Rhodri joins Llantrisant YFC at the beginning of a new year, and we hear from a company growing all sorts of mushroom varieties.

This week, we hear from a company in Usk is showing how mushrooms can be grown not just for autumn but for every season, combining sustainability with an innovative approach to food. Their vision is rooted in the idea that fungi can offer both nourishment and health benefits.

Further west in Carmarthenshire, Megan Williams visits Onnen Studios, a farm in the shadow of Carreg Cennen Castle where metalworking skills are given a new lease of life. The results range from striking, large-scale garden art to the tools and markers needed on working farms – a balance between craft and practicality.

Finally, we hear the voices of the next generation at Llantrisant Young Farmers Club. September marks the start of a new year of competitions, projects and social events. For young people in rural areas, YFC provides not only entertainment but also an opportunity to develop life skills, try new experiences, and forge lasting friendships.
