AMR Action UK

, formerly Antibiotics Research UK, is a UK charity dedicated to helping people affected by antimicrobial resistance (AMR).  AMR occurs when bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites change over time and no longer respond to medicines like antibiotics.  AMR Action UK also advocates for changes in prevention and treatment to save lives and reduce long-term harm to patients.

Kelly’s battle with AMR

Kelly’s battle with AMR
Kelly had a urinary infection that could not be treated by the antibiotics she had been given because the bacteria were resistant to them.  She ended up in intensive care fighting for her life due to AMR.

Support from AMR Action UK’s help-line
The charity supported Kelly through her recovery and ongoing flare-ups. It also gave her crucial advice to push for the right treatment. Every year it helps people navigate health systems, and commissions research to help prevent harm from AMR.

Helping people get the right antibiotics, first time
AMR Action UK also campaigns for policy and practice changes. This includes the availability of diagnostic testing in GP surgeries that takes the guesswork out of antibiotic prescribing, ensuring patients get the right antibiotic, first time.
