Dromore Linen Festival

Helen and Rebs explore the Dromore Linen Festival, learning about a unique part of our past... and future of industry.

Helen Mark presents ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio Ulster’s weekly Ulster-Scots magazine show this week alongside (making her debut on the show!) Rebs Lightbody.
Helen and Rebs visit the first ever Dromore Linen Festival – celebrating the town’s rich linen heritage with a number of events including workshops, exhibitions and community events. They speak to organisers, visitors and folk who at one time worked (or work) transforming flax into everything from bedsheets to bow ties. They learn about the stories, skills, and traditions woven into the fabric of Dromore (and surrounding areas) while looking to the future and a resurgence in linen production inspired by it’s sustainability. And of course linen productions undeniable link to the Ulster-Scots!
As always, listeners are invited to contact the programme with a good Ulster-Scots yarn or event to talk about. The easiest way to do that is by email - kintra@bbc.co.uk.
