Stravinsky's Firebird Suite
The Ulster Orchestra launches its new season with a concert including music by Borodin, Saint-Saëns, Fauré and Stravinsky, with cellist Laura van der Heijden.
The fanfares of Borodin’s Overture to Prince Igor herald the start of the Ulster Orchestra’s new season and a programme that’s packed with classic tales. Laura van der Heijden joins the orchestra for Saint-Saëns’s popular Cello Concerto No. 1, with Fauré’s Pelléas et Mélisande Suite paving the way for Stravinsky’s technicolored Firebird Suite (1945).
Recorded in September at the Ulster Hall, Belfast, and presented by John Toal.
