From testing day on his own farm to the experiences of Wyn and Enid Davies and the latest science, Ifan Jones Evans explores the impact of bovine TB in Wales.
Bovine tuberculosis is one of the greatest challenges facing Welsh farming. For farmers and their families the annual TB test brings pressure, uncertainty and worry. A single positive result can mean major financial loss, strict movement restrictions and the heartbreak of losing animals.
In this week’s Country Focus, presenter Ifan Jones Evans begins at home on his farm in Ceredigion, as vet Ed Moss carries out the annual TB test on his cattle. We hear what the test involves, why it matters and the strain it puts on farming families.
We then hear from Wyn and Enid Davies, whose TB outbreak made headlines when they allowed S4C’s Ffermio cameras to film the cull of part of their herd. They share the devastating impact of that day, the reaction to telling their story publicly, and how they have tried to rebuild since.
Back at home, Ifan receives his own test results, before reporter Rhodri Davies speaks with Professor Glyn Hewinson from Aberystwyth University about the latest science and policy on tackling bovine TB.
This special edition of Country Focus looks at the reality of living with bovine TB in Wales.
