Stoneleigh 10
In Warwickshire, Eric Knowles learns about a remarkable local woman who dedicated her life to helping young soldiers during the First World War.
Eric Knowles presents today’s show from Stoneleigh in Warwickshire, where he learns about Cordelia Leigh, a local woman who made a real difference to the lives of young soldiers during the First World War. Historian Sheila Woolf shows Eric some of Cordelia’s poignant personal diaries and shares a selection of the many letters and gifts, such as clothing, chocolate and bibles, that she sent to soldiers serving on the front line.
At the antiques fair, experts Caroline Hawley and Tim Weeks help the teams in their search for profitable items. On the red team, teachers Balj and Ishaq are drawn to a giant wooden hippo, but they’re not wild about the price when the dealer tells them it will cost £1,000! Friends Eve and Gill on the blue team spot a quirky two-tone vintage telephone. Their expert Tim likes it - but it’s not calling out to Eve, who thinks it’s too old-fashioned!
