Contemporary and classic tracks from around the world. Playlist at bbcworldservice.com
New albums dominate this week's programme: taking its title from the Malawi tourist board promotions, the 'Warm Heart of Africa' is in fact a collaboration between Malawi-born but London-based singer Esau Mwamwaya and musicians from Europe and beyond. Don't be fooled by the Russian lyrics on the latest track from The Triaboliques: the band is made up of three Brits - Justin Adams, Lu Edmonds and Ben Mandelson. Argentine experimentalist Juana Molina contributes a heavily multitracked version of herself while the warm voice of Sam Baker requires only minimal instrumental support. After the success of 'Segu Blue', ngoni player Bassekou Kouyate is back with a new album 'I speak Fula' and he enlists the support of kamelengoni virtuoso Harouna Samake. Plus a track from Charlie's current favourites, 17 Hippies.
