The extraordinary story of Staff Benda Bilili has been making music headlines for about five years but now the tricycle-riding band of disabled musicians and street children from Kinshasa is releasing their first album in the West.

Singer Mayra Andrade, who also has a new album, is an embodiment of 21st century musical nomad: born in Cuba, brought up in Cape Verde, constantly moving between Africa, Europe and South America, and recording her music with instrumentalists from Brazil and Cameroon as well as Cuba and Cape Verde.

Yasmin Levy鈥檚 latest interpretations of both traditional languorous Ladino songs and new material won鈥檛 be available until the autumn but Charlie plays a sneak preview. Plus two songs with strong Romani overtones and a couple of experimental tracks from both sides of the Atlantic.
