Tundra bloom
In summer, ground temperatures rise, encouraging many arctic flowers to bloom. However, with the short growing season it can take as long as two years for the plants to set seed. A variety of colourful tundra flowers, including the Arctic poppy and mountain avens are pollinated by butterflies and bumble bees. A red-spotted bluethroat catches a series of insects, and takes them back to its nest. Many birds come to the Arctic to rear their young and exploit the feast of insects and 24 hour daylight.
