Capercaillie calling
Where the forest floor of the taiga flattens out into open spaces, black-billed capercaillie gather at dusk. As many as 20 males may gather at these display grounds. Starting perched in the tree tops, they move down to the ground where they display to the rival males from their small territory, circling round, calling furiously and fanning out their tail feathers. All this is in the hope of attracting a female to mate with.
