Deadly competition

Eagles often produce two eggs. They begin sitting as soon as the first one is laid so they often hatch at different times. One chick is often much bigger than the other and soon the older chick begins to attack its sibling, forcing it from the nest. This survival tactic of the older chick means it now does not need to share the food brought by the parents and increases its own chances of fledging.
