Ice age survival
Temperatures in ice age Beringia remained below freezing 24 hours a day for most of the year. How did animals survive this? The more hair the better, for a start. Musk oxen can stay warm in -50 degrees thanks to their chill proof woolly coats - the warmest fur of any mammal. Their thick fur has two layers, a long outer layer over a dense wool layer underneath. It's so effective that musk oxen can even overheat if they run too far.
