Bill Oddie takes a close look at a great crested newt in a tank. Your best chance to see great crested newts is at night, so these ones were caught the night before. You need a licence to handle great crested newts as they are both rare and protected. Compared to the smooth newt they are nearly twice as big, much darker on the back and the orange belly is startlingly vivid. Bill releases them back into the pond.
