The European Bison is the largest land mammal in Europe - also known as a Wisent. A big male can be two metres tall and weigh 1000kg – that’s the same weight as a small car! Their thick fur helps keep them warm in the snows of winter. They are very hardy and can survive extreme temperatures but they do need to drink everyday and often use their hooves to break ice to reach water
