Forced marriages
Jasvinder Sanghera runs the charity Karma Nirvana to help victims of forced marriages. She campaigned to get the law changed so that people from outside Europe could not get a visa to come to the UK to marry if they are under 21 – she is convinced the new rule was making a real difference to the problem of forced marriage. But the Supreme Court struck Jasvinder’s law down in the name of the human rights of those Brits who wanted to marry someone under 21 from outside Europe.
