Properties and uses of nitrogen
Nitrogen makes up most of the air we breathe. It is also an essential component of proteins and DNA. It is present in most of the fertilisers that we add to plants in the form of ammonium and nitrate. The conversion of nitrogen to nitrate also occurs in the atmosphere due to lightning.
