                Scottish emigrants in the USA and Canada
Between 1870 and 1900, over half the Scots who left home emigrated to the USA. By this time, the country was more developed and needed skilled and educated workers. Scottish communities built up around the industries of masonry, textiles, steel and car manufacturing.
