What technology did Irish monks use in the 7th century?
Early missionaries targeted tribal leaders, knowing the people would follow, and new religious communities soon dominated the landscape. The 7th century Nendrum Abbey beside Strangford Lough was a focal point for nearly a millennium. Computer graphics overlay the landscape to build a picture of a functioning community. The monks used tidal power to mill flour - possibly the oldest example of this early technology in the world.
