The “unrequited love affair” behind Ukraine protests
There’s been a surge in violence in Kiev, after police tried to uproot protesters in the centre of the Ukrainian capital. The demonstrations began in December, when President Viktor Yanukovych rejected a landmark association and trade deal with the EU in favour of closer ties with Russia.
