    Vine in 1914: Your Country Needs You
As soon as Britain entered the war, Secretary of State Lord Kitchener began a recruitment drive aimed at dramatically expanding Britain’s armed forces.
The call for volunteers was met with immediate success – with Kitchener’s initial target of 100,000 new recruits signing up almost immediately.
Enforced conscription would not be introduced until March 1916.
