Vine in 1914: Your Country Needs You

Jeremy Vine

Available for over a year

As soon as Britain entered the war, Secretary of State Lord Kitchener began a recruitment drive aimed at dramatically expanding Britain’s armed forces. The call for volunteers was met with immediate success – with Kitchener’s initial target of 100,000 new recruits signing up almost immediately. Enforced conscription would not be introduced until March 1916.
