The killing of Archbishop Romero
The murder of the Archbishop Oscar Romero, as he celebrated Mass on 24 March 1980, was a turning point that tipped El Salvador into civil war.
In his Sunday sermons, broadcast by radio around the country, Archbishop Romero listed the abuses and demanded an end to the repression. Milagro Granados worked for a local newspaper, recording his sermons. On the day he was shot dead by a lone gunmen, she was at the church, standing right in front of the Archbishop.
She spoke to Witness about the moment that still gives her nightmares.
