
'We need radical thinking' - NHS Trust Chair
The chairman of a major NHS Foundation Trust has said there needs to be a radical rethink of how the government runs the health service.
Sir Thomas Hughes-Hallett, Chairman of the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, said the NHS is close to bankruptcy and the government either needs to increase the funding, reduce free healthcare or create an "army of volunteers" to support the elderly and take pressure off NHS services.
"It was never the original intention that all care should be provided by mother state," he told John Humphrys.
