Foreign Secretary: UK seeking ‘legally binding’ EU renegotiation
Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond has said the government is seeking legally binding agreement with the EU in the ongoing renegotiation.
Speaking on the Today programme, he said they were looking for “bankable” promises from members on matters including regulation, national sovereignty and welfare that would be incorporated into EU treaties at “the next available opportunity”.
He told John Humphrys that the negotiations were “going well” and that they were determined to secure “substantial, binding, irreversible” change in the UK’s relationship with the EU.
