Crossing borders with disabilities
The United Nations refugee agency expects at least a million refugees to have entered Europe by the end of 2015. Among them are a number of injured or disabled asylum seekers, which makes an already treacherous journey even more of a danger. Travelling on boats and across muddy borders often means that wheelchairs have to be abandoned. Many people revert to wheelbarrows or simply just carrying disabled refugees. Photo journalist Jodi Hilton has chronicled the challenges faced by disabled asylum seekers in the Balkans as they try to travel across Europe's borders.
