Is the Arctic a place for pleasure cruises?
As Arctic sea ice recedes, shipping traffic through the Northwest Passage and the Bering Strait has increased. Soon a luxury cruise ship will carry 1700 passengers through what could be very turbulent waters. Coast Guard officials from the US and Canada are training for a possible rescue from one of these huge liners. The United States Special Representative for the Arctic, Admiral Robert Papp gave Dan Damon his reaction:
