Newcastle United鈥檚 record goalscorer and former captain Alan Shearer admits he is 鈥渄elighted鈥� but a 鈥渓ittle surprised鈥� by Rafa Benitez's decision to stay on as manager of the Magpies.

Shearer said: "It's a tough league, The Championship, and hopefully he can get Newcastle back into the Premier League within one season."

The 56-year-old Spaniard was appointed Newcastle manager in March, following the sacking of Steve McClaren.
