Angela Eagle has described the emotional turmoil in her decision to resign from Jeremy Corbyn's shadow cabinet.

Sounding tearful, Ms Eagle said she had made a promise to support Mr Corbyn and done her best to fulfil it but the Labour leader had to realise he could not take the party into a general election.

She also complained about failings with the way Mr Corbyn's office worked, saying she had texted Mr Corbyn and tried to reach him on Sunday and heard nothing back.
