British Paralmypian: I had to replace my leg twice a week
British Paralympic sprinter John McFall says he 'exploded' two prosthetic limbs a week when teaching himself to run again after his leg was amputated.
The prosthetic walking legs he was using had a hydraulic knee unit and carbon fibre foot design, which were not suitably designed to stand up to the vigorous exercise.
"The cylinders were exploding and hydraulic fluid was going all over the track, the piston was being ripped out of the cylinder at full extension. Pretty much every time I went running, I would blow a leg up and have to call my prosthetist," he said.
McFall went on the represent Great Britain at the Beijing Paralympics in 2008, winning bronze in the 100m.
