Thousands in the UK surviving decades with cancer
Cancer is no longer the death sentence it once was, according to a report by UK charity Macmillan Cancer Support.
People are twice as likely to survive at least a decade after diagnosis than they were in the 1970s.
The study says that better treatments and speedier diagnoses are among the reasons for improved survival rates.
But Macmillan are warning that cancer can leave a legacy of depression and financial difficulties.
Lucy Grey spoke to Professor of Oncology Jonathan Waxman about the study.
