Doctors private pay plan is 'missed opportunity'

NHS doctors in England are to be made to declare their income from private work, under plans to boost transparency and avoid conflicts of interest.

James Ball is a consultant opthalmologist who does NHS and private work. He works for Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and Optegra Eye Hospital Yorkshire.

He told presenter Martha Kearney that there were already checks in place and the move could be a disincentive to private work which generated income for the NHS.
