Price rise fears as pound falls

Price rises for consumers could be in the pipeline because of the falling pound and uncertainty over the UK's exit from the European Union, says a retail lobby group.

Helen Dickinson, director general of the British Retail Consortium, told The World At One's Martha Kearney prices had enjoyed four years of falling prices but there were economic "head winds" causing upward pressure now.

The BRC has written to the International Trade Secretary, Liam Fox, warning that years of deflation mean retailers would find it difficult to absorb an increase in tariffs.
