Volkswagen will axe 30,000 jobs.

The German automotive giant Volkswagen plans to cut 30,000 jobs to reduce costs to deal with claims for compensation over cheating emissions tests, as well as fines from regulators.

VW has agreed the job cuts with trade unions and 23,000 of them will be in Germany, but there will be no forced layoffs.

Volkswagen also plans to increase investment in new technologies and focus more on electric cars. Automotive analyst Krish Bhaskar tells the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½'s Susannah Streeter more about VW's efforts to restore trust in its brand.
